Week 2
March 31 - April 3
Starting out this first week back after Spring Break, we're starting out with what I hope won't be too overwhelming at first. If your child is able to read and write and practice math every weekday, that would be wonderful, but some families may end up spending larger chunks of time completing schoolwork on fewer days if their schedules require that.
Alberta Education has outlined that children in Kindergarten to Grade Three will spend approximately 5 hours per week on their learning at home during this pause from school, so I will be expecting your child to be reading at least 90 minutes a week, writing at least 90 minutes a week, and working on math at least 2 hours a week. Of course, if you wish to have your child spend more than those allotted minutes on schoolwork, that would enhance their learning, but it is not required.
Please make sure that your child is watching the video mini-lessons over the course of the week that I have posted them (this time can be included in the allotted schoolwork minutes). At this time, I am not including spelling or word work in the assigned time, but I have made work for that available on the Language Arts page if you'd like to access it.
Resources for students to practice their literacy and numeracy skills this week are posted on the Language Arts and Math pages on this website. I will be providing weekly assignments for students that I will be asking you to submit (not all their work needs to be submitted, but the assignments posted on this week's Language Arts and Math pages do need to be submitted to me so that I can ensure that students engaged in learning as Alberta Education has outlined). You can send me the assignments by attaching them in a message in Seesaw, uploading them using Seesaw Class, or emailing them. If you have problems submitting your child's work that way, send me a message and we can troubleshoot. I will touch base later in the week (I'll likely send a message) about submitting assignments as I've had time to monitor how things are going for families.
Ideally, the assignments would be submitted by Friday so that I can gather information to plan for the next week, but if you need until Sunday to finish assignments because of your family's schedule, I completely understand that. Please navigate to the Language Arts and Math tabs at the top of this website (not the Language Arts Week 1 or Math Week 1 that are archived below those tabs), and find this week's schoolwork there. I truly appreciate all the work you're doing to help your child as a learner from home. I know this isn't what you had signed up for this school year, and am grateful for all of you stepping up during this time!
