Week 4
April 14 - April 17
Butterfly Week!
This week will be similar to last week's set-up, and I've got a few butterfly stories and activities ready to go for this week with our butterfly expert joining our class Meet on Wednesday! If your child is able to read and write and practice math every weekday, that would be wonderful, but some families may end up spending larger chunks of time completing schoolwork on fewer days if their schedules require that. If needed you can see my guidelines from Week 2 here for more information on the time allotted for different subjects.
We will be having class Google Meets on Tuesday at 10:00am and Wednesday at 1:00pm this week (not our normal Thursday time) using the same code or URL from my messages last week, and information about how to use Google Meet is posted below. The most important Google Meet this week is our Wednesday 1:00pm one because a butterfly expert from the Royal Botanical Gardens in Ontario will be joining us.
Please make sure that your child is watching the video mini-lessons during the week that I have posted them (this time can be included in the allotted schoolwork minutes). Just like last week, lessons and activities for students to practice their literacy and numeracy skills this week are posted on the Language Arts Week 3 and Math Week 3 pages on this website (click on the tabs at the top of this page to access those).
Please try using Seesaw Class if possible to submit those assignments. I have posted a video below on how to use Seesaw Class if that is helpful for you. If you have problems submitting your child's work that way, send me a message and we can troubleshoot, and it will be fine if a few families need to submit work in another way.
Ideally, the assignments would be submitted by Friday so that I can gather information to plan for the next week, but if you need until Sunday to finish assignments because of your family's schedule, I completely understand that. Thanks so much for all your support at home during this time!

Our Meeting with Ms. Karin
We were very lucky to meet with Ms. Karin from the Royal Botanical Gardens this week, and she taught us all about monarch butterflies and other species at risk in Alberta! She was extremely engaging, and the students learned a lot for our unit on Small Crawling & Flying Animals. Below are some pictures from the presentation!
Ms. Karin's program is funded by Environment Canada and donations from patrons. If you are interested in donating, you can do so by clicking here.
