Our mantis nymphs beat the chicks to the punch this week as they were the first to hatch from their ootheca! We had hundreds of nymphs emerge from the ootheca, and they’re happily munching on fruit flies now in their habitat. They are an aggressive animal, so they have also been observed attacking their sisters and brothers... The most popular praying mantis activity in our class has been observing the mantis hunting, which they are quite skilled at, and the class has been taking careful notes and diagrams of the mantids' behaviour and appearance. |
