- They are making connections while they visualize
- They are training their brains for books that don't include pictures with text
- They combiune their own background knowledge with the words of the author to enhance their understanding of the text and bring it to life
- They are able to activate all their senses (not just sight) to create mental images
- It is easier with books that are filled with rich, vivid language
